PLANNING POLICY REVIEW
Tendring District Council is consulting on the Review Local Plan
The Tendring District Local Plan is the blueprint for new development across the District and contains the rules and policies against which planning applications are assessed. TDC is in the process of reviewing and updating the Local Plan to ensure it remains up-to-date and complies with national planning policy.
March 2025 Public Consultation TDC invited the public to express their views on the Issues and Options to be considered for the future of Tendring. A series of Public Drop-in exhibitions are to be held between 17th- 26th March 2025 to find out more about the consultation and to discuss the Local Plan with planning officers. All events 3pm - 7pm. The deadline for responses is 5pm 14th April 2025.
December 2025 Public Announcement : Tendring District Council has published a draft spatial strategy which proposes expansion of most of the district’s towns and villages, and new settlements along the A120. The draft proposals include a new housing site for 30 dwellings on land north of Rectory Road, Wrabness. A public consultation on the full Local Plan update is expected early in 2026. January 2026 Public Announcement: On 27 January Tendring District Council resolved to undertake a six week public consultation on the draft Tendring District Local Plan during February and March 2026 - exact dates and exhibition venues to be published shortly. The available information about the draft Local Plan can be viewed at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/localplanreview including the draft new planning policy inset plan for Wrabness - see below.
February 2026 Public Consultation The Tendring District Local Plan Review 2025-2042 and Beyond Preferred Options Consultation Document has been published. This is a formal opportunity for residents, businesses, community organisations, landowners, developers, and interested parties to comment on the emerging proposals. This consultation sets out the Council’s preferred policy approaches and the sites proposed for future residential, employment, and mixed-use development. TDC will welcome feedback both in support of and objecting to the proposals, as well as any alternative suggestions.The consultation runs for just over six weeks, from Monday 9 February 2026 until 5pm on Monday 23 March 2026. 18th February 2026 Public Meeting Forty residents attended a public meeting about the Review Local Plan at the village hall arranged by Wrabness Parish Council. A Tendring District Council Planning Officer gave an informative presentation and answered questions about the Local Plan Review with a focus on the Wrabness area. Residents are encouraged to participate in the Consultation which 23 March 2026.

Tendring District Council Planning Services are based at Clacton Town Hall where planning applications are available for public inspection. Residents are entitled to comment on most current planning applications. These are advertised by red coloured site notice displayed on or near the frontage of application sites.
